My name is Dale Wilson and I’m a sandblast etch artist. I was born in Windsor, ON and grew up in Sandwich Town. I currently live with my wife in the small town of Kingsville, ON.
When I was about 4 years old, I was watching my uncle Phil teach my father how to draw Andy Capp from the newspaper comics and I remember thinking to myself, “I can do that!”
And I did!
I drew all the time as a young child and well into my teen years. I truly loved drawing!
Fast forward to early in my work career.
In the mid 1980’s, I was employed at Dominion Glass on Howard Avenue in Windsor, ON when I was first introduced to sandblasting. They had a sandblasting booth there and a local furniture store, Coulter’s Furniture, wanted their logo reproduced on some mirrors and I was asked to do it! This was my first experience with sandblast etching. I fell in love! LOL!
Then in the mid 1990’s, I was offered a position at Mark L. Tec Design Studio. They were a graphic design and sandblasting studio in Windsor, ON. It was here, while working in the sandblasting department, I decided I could combine my love of drawing with my sandblasting and glass experience.
I took 3 years of Graphic Design at St. Clair College and in 2001 D.W. Design Art was born.
That was 19 years ago now and I still enjoy sandblast etching to this day.
